The Car Appraisal Process: Tips for Trading Up

Stephany Renfrow Columbus, Tips 1 Comment

Change is good, right? Sometimes, as our needs change, we need to make a change in what we drive too.

Maybe you need a newer car because yours is getting up there in age and mileage (let’s face it, Columbus traffic isn’t getting any better and you might just need something with better gas mileage.) Maybe yours is unreliable. Maybe you’re going through a major life change—like having kids and you need a van or a third-row SUV, for example. Or maybe you just want something new. No matter the reason, getting your vehicle appraised is going to help you get the most out of your current car.

Whether you’re looking to trade up or sell your car outright, it’s always a good idea to get your vehicle appraised before you make your move. An appraisal will help you gain a current, realistic idea of what the market value really is.

Fortunately, getting your FREE car appraisal with Bobb Automotive is quick, easy, and accurate. So, are you ready to trade up? Let’s get started.

At Bobb Says Yes!, we begin with  a thorough inspection of your vehicle. We’ll check inside and out to assess the overall condition.

What we consider:

During our appraisal process, we consider things like mileage, interior and exterior condition (wear and tear), and mechanical stability. We’ll also need to check out the accident history. We’ll check that when you’re here using either Carfax or Autocheck, two of the industry’s leading vehicle history report services.

The inspection process only takes about 30 minutes, and most can be completed in even less time than that. If we like your car, we’ll buy it on the spot, even if you don’t want to buy one of ours! If you need more time, your value appraisal is good for 7 days.

Keep in mind, car values differ by region and can change throughout the year. If you look your car up using Kelly Blue Book, you’ll see that vehicle values here in Columbus, Ohio can be quite different than they would be in Portland, Oregon, for example. It’s a good idea to remember this ahead of time, and even check yearly trends to get the most bang for your buck.

Here’s a quick pro tip: Make sure your car is clean before you bring it in for appraisal. Sure, a clean car isn’t necessarily in better condition, internally or externally. But it certainly makes your car appear well taken care of and more attractive! As with anything you’d sell, it never hurts to make it look as appealing as possible before a potential buyer considers it.

When you’re ready to sell, there are a few things you’ll need to bring in with you:

  • Title and/or payoff information

  • Current and valid registration

  • Valid ID

  • All keys and necessary items for vehicle access and use (fobs, etc.)

Also, everyone who’s on the title will need to be there to sign off on the trade or sale.

And that’s it! Whether you want to sell your car outright or trade it in for top dollar, we’re always buying. Want to get a quick idea of how much your trade is worth before you come in? It takes as little as 1 minute to find out with our online vehicle appraiser. Get started today or schedule your in-person appraisal appointment at Bobb Says Yes!

  1. Thanks for the tip to make sure your car is clean before bringing it in for an appraisal to help your vehicle appear well taken care of. My current vehicle is getting pretty high in mileage, and I’m thinking that getting a new vehicle would be a smart idea. Finding a free car appraisal and starting to clean up my car will be things I do so that I can start the process of getting a new vehicle.
